OfSTED praises rapid improvements at Archbishop Sentamu Academy
Following a recent visit, OfSTED inspectors have now judged ASA to be securely good in many areas. They praised leaders at every level, noting the “culture of high expectations” and the “rigorous checking of the quality of teaching and learning”. They were equally impressed with the quality of the curriculum, noting the wide choice of subjects ranging from Mandarin Chinese to Motor Vehicle Engineering, as well as a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
The inspection team also congratulated behaviour, noting that “pupils respond well to the high expectations of their behaviour. Behaviour in lessons and around the school is polite and respectful”. Overall, they judged that “Personal development and welfare of the pupils are at the heart of this school”.
The sixth form was also highly commended. Inspectors commented that “The quality of teaching, learning and assessment in the Sixth Form is good”, that “teachers have strong subject knowledge”, and that “students are well-prepared for employment and life at work”.
As a result of all these improvements, OfSTEd have now taken the School out of Special Measures.
“We are delighted that OfSTED have fully recognised the many improvements we have made, and in particular, that our pupils told inspectors they feel so happy, safe, supported and valued. I would like to pay tribute to to all of our staff and governors who have worked tirelessly to achieve this, and also to our parents for supporting us as we work to ensure that pupils achieve the best outcomes possible.”

3. How effective is religious education?
4. How effective are the leadership and management of the school as a church school?
