Archbishop Sentamu Academy is a vibrant, diverse and welcoming academy community committed to securing our vision to bring the highest standards of education to the young people in our local area. Our distinctively Christian vision is that everyone will be able ‘to lead the best life possible’, now – and in the future, as is found in the words of Jesus in John 10:10 ‘Life in all its fullness’ . Our vision is lived out through our academy values of:
Respect – Community – Courage – Wisdom
We are a proud member of the Hope Sentamu Learning Trust which is a family of schools working together to create a first class education across the region.
Archbishop Sentamu Academy is on a journey, everyone working at the school is extremely proud of the progress we have made. We have the highest expectations of all our students and believe that there are no limits on what they can achieve. We understand and recognise the enormous role that our parents play in realising the true potential of all young people. At the heart of the school is our commitment to work alongside parents, carers and the local community to raise aspirations for all and to provide a high quality education for every child.
Our goal is to ensure that each individual has the skills and the knowledge needed to succeed in life and achieve their potential. In addition to learning being exciting and rewarding, it will also encourage and challenge so that our children have high aspirations.
It is a privilege to lead Archbishop Sentamu Academy.
Chris Reynolds
Principal
One of my main roles as Vice Principal is ensuring the quality of education our students receive and the study programmes we offer our students are exceptional. Our curriculum ethos is to be ambitious with what we teach and consistent with how we teach it–this way, every single student at ASA is exposed to the best possible education, leading to academic and personal growth, as well as securing some fantastic outcomes at all key stages. I lead a team of staff which include Heads of Faculty who all work tirelessly to ensure our students receive the very best of educational experience, in and out of the classroom.
I look forward to working with our entire school community, driving high academic standards, delivered through our values of respect, community, courage and wisdom.
Kristina Hill
Vice Principal for Quality of Education
As part of my role as Vice Principal for Inclusion I am proud of the high expectations that are expected to be met around the academy that will ensure the best outcomes for each student. We are very lucky in that we have a large Pastoral Team for each year group who will be on hand to support you in any way you need.
The academy’s values of hard work, respect, wisdom and community, alongside our Christian values are woven through a simple and supportive behaviour policy that is designed to support a calm and productive environment both in the classroom and around the academy. This will allow all students the opportunity to maximise their potential and achieve both short term and long term success.
I look forward to welcoming you back in September and working with you all to ensure each of you reach your potential.
Paul Fraser
Vice Principal for Inclusion

Rewarding Good Behaviour:
The Academy recognises that students should be rewarded for their display of good behaviour. The Academy will use the following rewards for displaying good behaviour:
Criteria for Awarding Positive Achievement Points:
Positive Achievement Points |
Criteria |
‘Respect’ Points |
These can be awarded by staff in lessons or around school for students demonstrating the academy values, e.g. a great answer to a question asked, superb class contributions, being helpful in or out of a lesson, supporting other students or staff, extra-curricular/enrichment involvement, etc. Staff can give these out with a value of either 1, 3 or 5 achievement points. These will add to their ‘currency’ and they will be able to order prizes from a menu through their tutor on a weekly, fortnightly or half-termly basis. |
‘Community’ Points |
|
‘Courage’ Points |
|
‘Wisdom’ Points |
|
Positive Postcard Home |
These are sent home by staff for students who have done some fantastic work in their subject (subject postcards) or for students who have gone above and beyond in demonstrating the academy values (value postcards). These postcards carry an achievement points value of 10. |
Extra-Curricular and Enrichment Points |
These are awarded when a student goes above and beyond in an extracurricular event/club or an enrichment activity. These carry an achievement points value of 10. |
Leadership Points |
When a student is referred by their class teacher/tutor to the Subject Leader or Year Leader. These carry an achievement points value of 15. |
Senior Leadership Points |
Referred by a Subject Leader or Year Leader to a member of SLT. These carry an achievement points value of 20. |
Whole-School Event Points |
These are awarded when a student represents the academy at a school event or does something extraordinary outside of school. These carry an achievement points value of 25. |
Certificates of Achievement:
These are awarded at the end of each half term for outstanding effort or standard of work. They will also be awarded for reaching the following number of achievement points:
Bronze Certificate 400 achievement points
Silver Certificate 800 achievement points
Gold Certificate 1200 achievement points
Platinum Certificate 1600 achievement points
Expectations
If any student is not meeting our high expectations a verbal reminder will be issued in the first instance. If poor behaviour persists then a final reminder will be issued along with an explanation that behaviour doesn’t improve then the next step will be to issue a 30 minute detention.
If, on the rare occasion that poor behaviour persists, the student will then be removed from their lesson and placed into another room for the remainder of the lesson. If the student is not successful in that lesson then they may be placed into Seclusion for the remainder of the day.
Detentions
There are two detention slots that take place every day after school, one run by the Pastoral Team and the other run by the Senior Leadership Team.
Students will initially be placed in a 30 minute detention with their Pastoral Team, usually the day after the detention was given. If the student fails to attend the 30 minute detention, they will then be issued with a 60 minute detention, run by a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Should the student fail to attend this detention they will be placed into Seclusion for a full day.
Our ASA Enrichment intent is to give all learners the knowledge, experiences and cultural capital needed to succeed in life. Through our co- and extra-curricular programmes, students are exposed to a rich and diverse offer that presents them with a wide range of internal and external opportunities.
Co-curricular refers to the activities and learning experiences that take place in school alongside the academic curriculum and complement what the students are learning in school, i.e. experiences that are connected to or mirror the academic curriculum.
Extra-curricular refers to activities outside the regular curriculum (usually before or after school), i.e. experiences that are not necessarily connected to or do not mirror the academic curriculum. These are on our extra-curricular timetable, available on the website.
Our co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities are the two key elements that form our ASA Enrichment Offer.
