Archbishop Sentamu Academy is a vibrant, diverse and welcoming academy community committed to securing our vision to bring the highest standards of education to the young people in our local area. Our distinctively Christian vision is that everyone will be able ‘to lead the best life possible’, now – and in the future. Our vision is lived out through our academy values of: Respect – Community – Courage – Wisdom
Students at this school are supported both academically and Pastorally. Students’ progress and attainment are measured regularly through data collections and meetings with key staff. All students are tracked individually with any interventions administered swiftly to ensure all students have the tools to succeed in the classroom.
The school has a large Inclusion Team consisting of a Head of House for each house and then two or three non-teaching Behaviour Support Officers that work alongside other teams such as Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Attendance to ensure that any pastoral issues can be rectified early to ensure that all students feel safe in school and have the tools to succeed both academically and socially.
Each tutor group has at least one designated tutor that will get to know your child very well over their course of their studies. Sometimes there are two tutors linked to each group.
Concerns or queries you might have about your child can be directed to your child’s tutor. You can use student planners to contact your child’s tutor (these are checked weekly) or telephone the school directly.
You will also have opportunities to meet with your child’s tutor at regular points during the course of their first two years in the Academy.
In September 2024, we were excited to launch our new House System with staff and students.
All staff and students in the academy were allocated to either Billocca, Murdoch, Sullivan, Godber or Johnson house for the entirety of their school life. Each House has a ‘Head of House’ and also at least two Behaviour Support Officers to support our students.
The introduction of the House System was designed to give students a sense of belonging whilst attending
Archbishop Sentamu Academy through collective responsibility and shared values. There are regular competitions between each house for things such as attendance, rewards points and uniform with the winning House receiving trophies and various prizes.
We also have a ‘Principal Point’ which Mr Reynolds will be distributing during his time around the academy and in lessons to students he feels have excelled in promoting our academy values of Respect, Courage, Community and Wisdom.
