As the Principal at Archbishop Sentamu Academy, I feel privileged to lead such a fantastic school which is also a part of the Hope Sentamu Learning Trust. We believe that all our students should be able to ‘lead the best life possible’. We achieve this through providing all students with an academic education which challenges them, not only academically, but also in terms of their place in society. We believe that this will prepare them for life not only in Britain, but across the world.
In April 2024, we were inspected by OFSTED who recognised our work and the rapid improvements that we have made on our school improvement journey. We would encourage you to read a copy of the 2024 Inspection report and to explore the academy’s website further, to give you a sense of the work that we are undertaking to ensure our students receive the education that they deserve. All of our work is about providing the best experience for our students both inside and outside the classroom.
As you would expect, our curriculum provides students with a personalised learning experience, anchored in our values of respect, courage, community and wisdom. Our Key Stage 4 programme of study commences in Year 10; our curriculum remains comprehensive and inclusive.
As an organisation working within the Hope Sentamu Learning Trust, we utilise our national connections to
ensure we are well placed for our learners to thrive within their education.
As well as opportunities inside the classroom, those attending Archbishop Sentamu Academy are able to find their passion through an extensive Enrichment programme. We encourage all students to take part in at least one club, where many go on to develop life-long skills, interests and build friendships. Our clubs and societies on offer range from traditional – drama, sports, choir and art club – through to those unique to the academy such as Mandarin and golf.
Our staff body is a dedicated team of professionals, all of whom play their part to ensure students are happy, safe and successful. Our approach to discipline is based upon traditional values of hard work, self-discipline and respect. Alongside this, we provide an excellent standard of pastoral care to ensure that students are well looked after and cared for.
We understand and recognise the enormous role that our parents and carers play in realising the true potential of all of our young people. Therefore, we will always seek to work in close partnership with you to support not
only the young people who attend our academy but also to support, when appropriate, the entire family unit.
Together, staff, students and parents work together at Archbishop Sentamu Academy to create a vibrant,
engaging school where students feel safe, are happy and are able to thrive.
Whilst we are rightly proud of our achievements as a school, we also know that our job will never be done. We are resolute that through our dedication to put young people first in every decision we will ensure that day in, day out, we are delivering on our vision for our students to ‘Lead the best life possible’.
