The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives the academy including additional funding to support Year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of Key Stage 2 (KS2).
At ASA we have used this funding to provide additional tuition and interventions within the school day to help students catch up with their peers and reach the standard that enables them to access the Key Stage 3 curriculum fully. We use Accelerated Reader to develop our year 7 students’ reading; we have trained four Teaching Assistants to deliver Read Write Inc’s Fresh Start Phonics programme and delivered this programme to students who are significantly below age-related expectations for reading. We have also given students who have not met the expected standard at KS2 in literacy and maths additional maths and English lessons to improve their literacy and numeracy. The link below gives you more specific information about how the funding was spent in 2019-20 and the impact of this spending. The 2020-21 report will be published in September 2021.
